Swiss BioRef: Personalized reference values for precision medicine

Reference ranges for results of blood tests are a very common tool used in daily medical practice. They should indicate the range in which values of a healthy person should be expected. However, these reference ranges frequently are very rough estimates and may lead to non-optimal care if wrongly interpreted. Swiss BioRef is a joint approach that aims at building an infrastructure to generate more accurate reference ranges by using the BioMed-IT network and laboratory data from hospitals and study cohorts.
